As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Richard E. McClain is dedicated to providing his patients with unparalleled service and respectful, superior care in a safe, comfortable manner. Working together, he helps his patients enhance their mobility, and improve their quality of life. In his current position, Dr. McClain serves as an orthopedic surgeon at Indiana University Health Goshen Physicians Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, arthritis and joint replacement surgery and general orthopedics, including the care and treatment of fractures. In his previous position, Dr. McClain was an orthopedic surgeon at North Central Orthopedics in Goshen, Ind. Prior to becoming a physician, he served his country in the United States Navy as an A6 Bombardier/Navigator, receiving the rank of lieutenant-commander.

Dr. McClain received his Bachelor of Science in biology from University of California in Los Angeles. Following his military service, he became a research assistant and PhD student in medical biochemistry and genetics at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, where he was on the National Dean’s List and Ohio University Dean’s List, and became a member of Sigma Sigma Phi National Honor Society. Dr. McClain completed his internship and residency at Michigan State University/Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Mich., where he also served as a clinical instructor through Michigan State University Department of Osteopathic Surgical Studies. Dedicated to his field, this devoted physician has also given medical presentations at professional meetings on various orthopedic topics.
