This board-certified orthopedic surgeon is not only dedicated to treating the debilitating aspects of each condition, but also takes the time to listen and understand each patient’s needs, using his medical expertise and experience to make their lives better. In his current position, Dr. Nelson serves as an orthopedic surgeon at Indiana University Health Goshen Physicians Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, focusing on joint replacement surgery, sports medicine, limited spine surgery, general orthopedics and fracture care. Previously, he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at North Central Orthopedics in Goshen, Ind., and is a former president of the Goshen General Hospital medical staff.
Dr. Nelson received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. He then earned his Master of Science in microbiology and Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. While there, he received the John C. Forbes Award for best proposed research, A. D. Williams Student Research Fellowship and was a member of the National Dean’s List and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following graduation, Dr. Nelson completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. This devoted physician has also given medical presentations at professional meetings and been published in peer-reviewed publications on various medical topics.
