Dr. Madhu Rao is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who gives his patients the individualized attention they deserve, while serving each one with a genuine warmth and interest in their overall health and well-being. In addition, this dedicated and compassionate physician is uniquely qualified to diagnose a wide range of orthopedic conditions and recommend the most appropriate therapy for adults and children, which may or may not include surgery. In his current position, Dr. Rao is an orthopedic surgeon at Indiana University Health Goshen Physicians Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, specializing in arthroscopy, non-operative back and neck care, foot, hand and ankle surgery, fractures and trauma, joint reconstruction and replacements, sports medicine and injuries, osteopathic manipulative treatment and minimally invasive surgery. Previously, he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Goshen Bone and Joint Center, addressing the needs of patients in Goshen and Nappanee, Ind. Prior to that, he was a staff orthopedic surgeon at Clarian West Medical Center in Avon, Ind., Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, Ind., and Westview Hospital in Indianapolis, where he served as chairman of the Tissue, Tumor & Transfusion Committee.
Dr. Rao received his Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake, Mich., where he worked as the team trainer for the basketball team. Upon graduation, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Mich. He then completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at POH Medical Center in Pontiac, Mich. At that time, Dr. Rao received extensive training in several orthopedic specialties, including adult reconstructive surgery, as well as hand and microsurgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, Mich.; pediatric orthopedics at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center; and orthopedic trauma surgery at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.
