With years of experience and a dedication to improving patient care, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. K. Thomas Wagner Jr., is a leader in his field who can diagnose and treat even the most complicated musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Making himself highly accessible to his patients, he offers each one the personalized, state-of-the-art care they need to live a healthy, active life. In his current position, Dr. Wagner is an orthopedic surgeon at Indiana University Health Goshen Physicians Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, specializing in knee and hip replacements, arthroscopic surgery, fractures and trauma, sports medicine and related injuries, osteoporosis prevention and management, arthritic diagnosis and treatment, sprains and tendon/ligament repair. Previously, he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Goshen Bone and Joint Center, addressing the needs of patients in Goshen and Shipshewana, Ind. He has also maintained orthopedic practices in Vermont and Virginia.

Dr. Wagner received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., and earned his Doctor of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He then completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he served as chief resident.

Upon becoming a physician, Dr. Wagner’s devotion and drive have afforded him many opportunities in both leadership and research. He served as the chairman of quality assurance and president of the medical staff at Northwestern Medical Center in Vermont. In addition, he contributed more than a decade of service at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County in Martinsville, Va., serving as board president, medical staff president elect and chairman of the department of surgery. While there, he was credited with organizing a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committee to improve patient care, outcomes and safety, then led the effort as chairman. In addition, he has extensive knowledge and has developed practice guidelines for 3M™ DRG-APR, a software system used to assess resource utilization for patient populations to compare quality of care and cost effectiveness. Plus, he’s been published by the prestigious Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics for his work concerning shoulder dislocations in children with open epiphysis. Currently, Dr. Wagner remains actively involved in management seminars and is a member of various medical boards.
